Liam Walsh

We normally share good news stories, but sadly on Saturday 18th September 2021, Liam Walsh, aged 23, sadly passed away.
The thoughts of everyone at Halton Farnworth Hornets go out to Liam’s family friends and team mates, he will never be forgotten.

Liam started his rugby journey as a youngster with Halton Farnworth Hornets, and his ability took him on to bigger and better things as he represented his country and home town as a professional. He never forgot his roots and this year returned to the club he loved, playing once again with his team mates in the Open Age.

The support shown from the people in the Rugby League Community is really heart warming. A massive thank you to especially to the Rugby League family in Widnes – Simms Cross, West Bank Bears, Moorfield Tigers and our friends across the river in Runcorn, for your kind thoughts, it just shows how our game rises above rivalry when the need dictates.

The club has opened a Celebration of Life Book which is available for people to write in and leave their respects. There is always someone glad to see you at our club if you need to speak to someone x

Rest easy Walshy x

It Certainly Was!

What an amazing Magical 24 hours we had up at Wilmere for Magic 24 2021!

It all started on Friday 10th September at 5:45pm with our Brand New HFH Cycling Club starting off on their 24 mile bike ride! Then onto 6pm and the whole club taking centre stage for the first 1 mile lap. The Crazy Gang set off running & rowing just after for their start to the 1 mile every hour for 24 hours…

Each team then took their turns every hour to run their 1 mile, amazing turn out by everyone. At Midnight it was an very emotional Memorial Walk, taking time out to remember those dear to us. Throughout the night the Crazy Gang kept on running and rowing for 1 mile every hour, until 7am when they were joined by the U11 Reds & Greens. Each team then picked up every hour to take part and complete their team lap.

The Little Stingers joined us for their weekly training session and even did their lap, (even if we did have to use the drone to keep them on track 😂). After their lap it was Graduation time for them, each getting presented with a certificate and medal.

The U14 and U11 Girls team took to the main pitch in their respective matches and kept the whole crowd enthraled! Well done girls!

At 5pm the Crazy Gang left on their final Run/Row and all met up to cross the finish line together as a team, what an amazing feat of endurance they all put their bodies through!

The day was building up to the grand finale of the Colour Dash, which didn’t disappoint. As you can see from the photos it certainly was a “Colour Dash”! What a perfect way to end the Magic 24 Weekend!

HFH would like to thank everybody for their kind donations and sponsorships, and also all of our amazing volunteers who helped to organise and run such a special event!

Magic 24

We are pleased to announce that our new clubhouse will start works on September 1st, like other things Covid has played its part in the delay of starting the project and also we have found that the costs have gone up due to demand of materials, so we ask with an open heart for you to all get behind us and have one last push for sponsorship towards the build.

The project will cost over £100K and so far due to generous sponsorship and grants we are very close to this figure. A just giving page has been set up for the club as a whole and we have set an ambitious target of £7500.

Magic 24 this year will be set over 3 disciplines, Running, Rowing and Cycling. 🏃‍♀️🚣🚴‍♂️

We are looking for individuals to join the crazy gang and complete 1 mile every hour for 24 hours running, Teams of 6 to compete in a non-stop rowing event (distance target to be agreed) and very special news we will be launching our very own HFH Cycling Club that will be looking to ride 24 miles as part of the challenge.

The event will start Friday 10th September 6.00pm and finish on Saturday 11th September with our much loved Colour Dash!

Lots of other things going on during the event, we will keep you updated.

If you are interested in taking part in any of these disciplines please let us know through our facebook page………

Womens League Cup Final

Halton Farnworth Hornets where delighted to be chosen by the RFL to host the Final of the Women’s League Cup between Wigan St Patricks and Dewsbury Moor Girls.

The weather certainly wasn’t the best! But it didn’t dampen the spirits of both teams, what a fantastic game both teams put on.

In the end it was Dewsbury Moor Girls ARFLC  who won, beating Wigan St Patricks A.R.L.F.C 24-8. Well done everybody 👏

Dewsbury Moor commented ‘Thank you for being such welcoming hosts. You really did put on a fantastic event. 👏 A day for our Ladies to remember for a long time! 🏉🏆

Elite Kids Camp

What a fantastic 2 days our Halton Farnworth Hornets kids have had with the Elite Kids Coaches. Starting from 10am till 3pm daily, they kept the kids busy with various Rugby activities catered to the kids age groups.

Speaking with the Elite Kids Coaches, they were really impressed with our setup at Wilmere and how amazing our kids were! Defo a credit to the club!!

Hopefully it won’t be too long before they’re back later in the year…. watch this space!
